Joseph G. Dolgos
Joseph G. Dolgos, 89, of Elk Creek Township, a man of deep faith, passed into the Lord's hands Tuesday morning with his loving wife by his side. He was born in 1919 in Pittsburgh, PA, son of the late Michael and Catherine (Kessler) Dolgos.
After graduating from Taylor Alderdice High School he served in the U.S. Army in Germany as a Staff Sergeant with the 76th Recon. He earned a Good Conduct Medal, a World War II Victory Medal, and the Bronze Star. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 456, and served as Commander of the American Legion, Post 351, both in Pittsburgh. He worked for 38 years in management for the A&P Tea Company, and 10 years with the Penn Hills School District. He then retired to his grandparents homestead near Albion, PA. Joseph enjoyed bowling, reading, and animals. He attended St. Philip Catholic Church in Crossingville.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Margaret Sarcone and Agnes Gheske. Surviving is his wife, Elaine, two sons, Joseph Dolgos Jr., David Dolgos and his wife, Paula, all of Pittsburgh, PA, a daughter, Jane Coyne and her husband, Tom, of Leonardtown, MD. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Erin, Jeffrey, Daniel, and Anna Coyne, Margo, Carly, and Michael Dolgos, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call the Steff-Mattera Funeral Home, 188 East State Street, Albion, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A prayer service will be held at the funeral home on Friday at 10:15 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Philip Catholic Church in Crossingville at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in St. James Cemetery, Crossingville, with military honors. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials are made to St. Philip Church, Rt. 98, Crossingville, PA 16412
