Eddy P. Dorr

Eddy P. Dorr, 81, of Albion, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 29, 2008. He was born January 31, 1927 in Springboro, PA, a son of the late Frank and Geraldine Eddy Dorr.

Eddy was raised in the local area and entered the Navy in 1943, serving four years. After discharge he worked for Connor's Motors until he started his own business in Albion, Ed's Garage, which he owned and operated for 31 years. Eddy moved to Albion in 1952 and became actively involved in many civic organizations. He was one of the founders of the Albion Area Chamber of Commerce where he served as president for two years. He was appointed to the Albion Municipal Authority. He was very involved in the Albion Area Volunteer Fire Department, serving as chief for seven years, serving as president of the Erie County and Crawford County Fire Chiefs Association, and was chosen Fireman of the Year for Erie County Fireman's Association. He was named Albion Area Man of the Year. Eddy was a third degree Mason and a member of the Zem Zem Shriners. He attended Grace United Methodist Church in Albion. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Mae Dorr, on February 5, 2004, after 55 years of marriage, and by a daughter, Karen Stewart, in 2006. He is survived by his son, Gary Dorr of Albion, one sister, Amaryellis "Tootles" DeVore and her husband Don of Brookville, FL, two brothers, Paul Dorr of Boca Raton, FL, Glenn Dorr of Cambridge Springs, PA. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Eric and his wife Bridget, Chandra, Leanne, Doug, three great-grandchildren, Andrea, Eric II, Connor, and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call the Steff-Mattera Funeral Home, 188 East State Street, Albion, on Tuesday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Larry Reitz of Grace United Methodist Church officiating. Private burial will be in Albion Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Albion Fire Department, 19 Smock Ave., Albion, PA 16401, or to Zem Zem Shriners, 2525 West 38th Street, Erie, PA 16506.
