Lee F. Davis

Lee F. Davis, age 82, of Cranesville, died Thursday, February 14, 2008 at Pleasant Ridge Manor, West, after a period of failing health. He was born at the family farm in Hickernell, PA, August 7, 1925, a son of the late Melvin and Gladys Graham Davis.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Charles Davis, and sisters, Nellie Gribus and Lena Hoesch. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Ruth Leona Lowry Davis, a son, David Davis and his wife Sandra of Edinboro, and daughters, Bonnie Davis of Moon Township, PA, and Dr. Sharon Davis and her husband, Mark Morava, of Moon Township, PA. He is also survived by one grandson, Andrew Davis and his wife, Francine, of New York City, two granddaughters, Gretchen Graber and her husband, Steve, of Mansfield, TX, Megan Morava of Moon Township, PA, two great-grandchildren, Camden and Hudson, and many beloved nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his AFS son, Knut Kise and his wife, Pan, of Asker, Norway.

Lee graduated from Springboro High School in 1942. He then went to officer's candidate school at the University of Pennsylvania and upon graduation was commissioned as an officer in the U.S. Navy. He served with distinction in the South Pacific in WW II, Korea (Bronze Star), and during the Vietnam era. He retired from the Naval Reserves as a Commander with over 25 years of service. Lee received a Bachelor's and Master's Degree in Education from Edinboro University, and a Principal's Certificate from Westminster College. He taught at Springboro High School and Northwestern High School. He was also the Business Manager and Principal at Northwestern High School and Administrator at the Erie County VoTech School. Lee was a lifetime member of the Albion Area Lion's Club where he received the prestigious Melvin Jones Fellowship Award for his accomplishments as a Lion for over 60 years. He was also a member of the American Legion, Conneautville Chapter of the Masons, the Albion Sportsman's Club, and the Grace United Methodist Church. He was very dedicated to serving his community. Lee loved his family and friends, and enjoyed fishing, golfing, hunting, traveling, bowling, singing, and working with young people. He and his wife Leona especially enjoyed spending winters with their many friends at the KOA in Naples, FL.

Friends may call the Steff-Mattera Funeral Home, 188 East State Street, Albion, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Monday at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Larry Reitz of Grace United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will be in Spring Cemetery, Springboro, PA.
