Thomas R. Ward

Thomas R. Ward, 79, of Erie, died Wednesday morning February 1, 2012 at St. Vincent Health Center following a lengthy illness. A resident of Erie all of his life he was born February 25, 1932 a son of the late Steven and Anna Koster Ward.

Thomas was a 1950 graduate of Cathedral Prep and went on to work at DSA of Erie as a systems analyst before retiring in 1997. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and enjoyed fishing, reading, and riding his motorcycle.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Mary Ann Shenker Ward; one son, Thomas Ward and his wife Sharon of Stafford, VA; six daughters, Christine Smith and her husband Dwight of Las Vegas, NV, Janice Felix and her husband Ken of McKean, Mary Lynn Bogner and her husband Bill of Erie, Barbara Sala and her husband Mas of Erie, Brenda Gack and her husband Jeff of Springboro, PA, and Carol Everhart of Erie; three sisters, Carol Cristie of Erie, Theresa Clark and her husband Jack of Cranesville, PA, and Kathleen Ward of Cranesville, PA; two brothers, Bob Ward and his wife Sharon of Pembroke Pines, FL and Steven Ward and his wife Karen of Mobile, AL; 13 grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren. Many nieces and nephews also survive.

Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home Inc., 5000 Wattsburg Road, on Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. and are invited to a prayer service there on Saturday morning at 9:15 a.m. followed by a funeral service at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family in Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery.
