Sophie Duda Borio

Sophie Duda Borio, 83, of Erie, died Monday afternoon June 6, 2011 at her residence. A resident of Erie all of her life she was born August 23, 1927 a daughter of the late John Sr. and Rose Backo Duda.

Sophie was a graduate of East High School and was a longtime member of Holy Catholic Church and the Altar Society. She enjoyed gardening her flowers, taking bus trips with her friends, and attending concerts.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick F. Borio; six brothers, Joseph, Wassel, Nick, John Jr., Stephen, and Michael Duda; and two sisters, Julia Kwiatkowska and Mary Walczak.

Survivors include four daughters, Linda Graham and her friend Thomas Foye of Erie, Karen McCarty and her husband Michael of Dayton, OH, Theresa Liberatore and her husband John of Erie, and Barbara Green and her husband James of Waterford; six grandsons; three granddaughters; one great grandson; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home Inc., 5000 Wattsburg Road, on Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. and are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Rosary Catholic Church on Friday morning at 10:00 a.m.. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Great Lakes Hospice, 1700 Peach St., Erie, 16501 or Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 2701 East Ave., Erie, 16504.
