 William S. Beveridge, Jr.
William S. Beveridge, Jr., 84, of Erie, died Friday evening June 17, 2011 at UPMC Hamot following a brief illness. A resident of Erie most of his life he was born in Sharon, PA on December 4, 1926 a son of the late William S. Beveridge II and Margaret Confer Groenendaal.
William was a 1944 graduate of Academy High School and went on to serve in the United States Navy during World War II and the Korean War. He worked as an assistant grain inspector at the grain elevator for four years and also worked on the Great Lakes. Most recently he worked for the Sears Roebuck Co. as a salesman for over 25 years before retiring in 1988.
He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church where he was a Scoutmaster for many years and a member of the VFW Post 4789 and the American Legion Carl Neff Post. He was also a member of the Siebenbuerger Club and enjoyed camping, wintering in Florida with close friends, traveling, and going to "jury duty" with Judge Judy. He was an avid reader, had a great sense of humor, and was especially proud of his entire family.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and Jim Beveridge; and one sister, Marietta Berry.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Elaine Dudenhoeffer Beveridge; two sons, Billy Beveridge and his wife Ginger of Erie and David Beveridge and his wife Beth of Anchorage, Alaska; two daughters, Karen Rebar and her husband Bob of Oxford, PA and Kathy Mizak and her husband Kevin of Russell, PA; two sisters, Annette Watson and her husband Bill and Myrna Brain, all of Erie; 14 grandchildren, Jonathan and Maggie Beveridge, Tory Shatto, Christopher, Bryan, Daniel, and Sara Rebar, Mark, Kara, and Gregory Mizak, and Nathanael, Joshua, Abigail, and Andrew Beveridge; one great grandson, Dylan Beveridge; one brother in law, Wilbert "Dude" Dudenhoeffer and his wife Ann of North East; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home Inc., 5000 Wattsburg Road, on Monday from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. and are invited to a prayer service there on Tuesday morning at 9:15 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m.. Entombment with military honors will be in Mary Queen of Peace Cemetery.
