Catherine T. Heim Balogh

Catherine T. "Cathy" Heim Balogh, 79, of Erie, died Tuesday morning October 5, 2010 at Brevillier Village following a lengthy illness. A resident of Erie most of her life she was born in Pittsburgh, PA on June 10, 1931 a daughter of the late Charles Erb and Catherine Heim Young.

Cathy attended Linesville High School and Erie Business College and went on to work for Erie Forge and Steel as a Key Punch Operator. Most recently she worked as an AVON representative for over 15 years. She was a member of St. Luke Catholic Church and the Altar Rosary Society. She was also past president of the St. Luke Funtastics Group. She was a Girl Scout Leader, room mother for her three children, and enjoyed playing cards.

Survivors include one daughter, Susan Maria Solomon and her husband Dr. Joel of West Roxbury, MA; two sons, Christopher J. Balogh and his wife Margaret of Cranesville, PA and Jeffrey J. Balogh and his wife Sherry of Erie; six grandchildren, Paul, Aryn, Ashley, and Christie Balogh and Noah and Gabriel Solomon; one step granddaughter, Brianna Wright; seven great grandchildren; and many lifelong friends. Many nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, George C. "Buddy" Balogh; one grandson, James Balogh; one brother, Charles Heim; and one sister Margaret Young.

Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home Inc., 5000 Wattsburg Road (corner of East Gore Rd. and Pine Ave.) on Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. and are invited to prayer services there on Friday morning at 9:15 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Luke Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m.. Entombment will be in Erie County Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
