William Dennis Polk

William Dennis Polk, 57, of Erie, passed away Sunday August 29, 2010 at home. He was born in Laurel, MS on September 19, 1952 to Cemay Barnes and the late Lawrence Gibbs.

He was preceded in death by his step-father Jeff Barnes; brother, Howard Henderson; sister, Marian Polk; uncles, Ray, AJ, and Melford Polk; aunt, Lillie Mae Phelps; father in law, Robert S. Pruitt, Sr.; and brother in law, Lt. Colonel Larry H. Pruitt.

William graduated from Academy High School (Go Lions!) in 1971. He was employed by Erie Forge and Steel for 35 years. He was an avid golfer, Dallas Cowboy fan, enjoyed Nascar, especially Jeff Gordon, and was a member of the Sportsman Club.

He will be remembered as being "fun", enjoying life to its fullest, a strong protector and defender, and a loyal friend.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Patti Polk; son, William McCullum (Tika); daughters, Shanell McCullum and Tarsha Lucas; seven grandchildren with a great grandchild due in November 2010; his twin sister, Sybil Black, Daisy Lee Peppers of MS, Alice Sanders, Jennifer Barnes; brother, Quincy Barnes of OH; aunts Myra Seals of MO, Vera Polk of CA; and many nephews, nieces, great nieces and nephews, and cousins.

Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home Inc., 5000 Wattsburg Road (corner of East Gore Rd. and Pine Ave.) on Friday from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. and are invited to services on Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m. at One in Christ International Church, 324 East 18th. St. Interment will be in Erie Cemetery.
