Joseph Peter Abbott, Jr.

Joseph Peter Abbott, Jr., 85, of Harborcreek, passed away peacefully at the Erie VA Medical Center on Tuesday evening August 31, 2010. He was born in Erie on May 26, 1925 a son of the late Joseph Sr. and Edith Herrmann Abbott.

Joe was a 1942 graduate of East High School and served in the United States Navy during World War II in the South Pacific. He graduated from Fenn College (C.S.U) and Gannon College with a BS and MS in Electrical Engineering and worked for General Electric until his retirement. He was also an avid dancer, bowler, horseshoe pitcher, woodworker, and former Times Old Newsie.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife and love of his life, Dolores Hitzelberger in 1955. Survivors include one daughter, Irene Abbott of Erie; one sister, Geraldine Cross of Madison, OH; one niece; two nephews; and his special caregiver, Patricia Wiezorek.

Calling hours will not be observed. Family and friends are invited to a graveside service at Calvary Cemetery on Friday at 12:00 noon in section 3.
