Edward J. Gorski, Sr.

Edward J. Gorski, Sr., 92, of Greene Township, died Sunday evening August 22, 2010 at Hamot Medical Center following a brief illness. A resident of Erie all of his life he was born on June 11, 1918 a son of the late Walter and Helen Danowksi Gorski.

Edward served in the United States Army during World War II as a paratrooper in the South Pacific and went on to work as an Armature Winder with G.E. for 40 years before retiring in 1980. He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and wintering in Florida for over 20 years. He was a member of the Siebenbuerger Club, Polish National Alliance Home of Erie, American Legion Carl Neff Post, and the VFW Post 4789.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one sister, Helen Kupniewski; and two brothers, Ludwig Gorski in infancy and Victor Gorski.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Irene D. Ostrowski Gorski; one son, Edward Gorski, Jr. and his wife Karen of Erie; one daughter, Barbara Orlemanski and her husband Raymond of Erie; and four grandchildren, Paul and Renee Orlemanski and Rachel and Mark Gorski. Many nieces and nephews also survive.

Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home Inc., 5000 Wattsburg Road (corner of East Gore Rd. and Pine Ave.) on Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., including a rosary service conducted by the Legion of Mary at 3:30 p.m.. A prayer service will be held there on Friday morning at 9:15 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Boniface Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m.. Burial with military honors will be in Mount of Olives Cemetery.
