Mary Frances Weigand Simpson

Mary Frances Weigand Simpson, 69, of Erie, died Saturday, July 24, 2010, at Ball Pavilion after an extended illness. Mary was born in Erie on August 8, 1940, daughter of the late Eugene and Teresa Geiger Weigand.

She was a graduate of Villa Maria Academy and Mercyhurst College. She was a teacher in the Wattsburg School District, a proofreader for Erie Insurance, and also a receptionist for Doctors Robert Ricart and Douglas Villella.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her great-aunt, Marie Geiger. She is survived by her husband, Ernest Simpson; their two children Mark Simpson and his wife, Sara, and Sherry Rieder and her husband, Douglas, all of Erie; two grandchildren, Alex and Julia Simpson; one sister, Ann, and her husband, Richard Nagosky; and three nephews, David, Michael and Paul Nagosky.

Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home Inc., 5000 Wattsburg Road (corner of East Gore Road and Pine Avenue), on Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. and are invited to a prayer service there on Tuesday at 9:15 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mark the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, 695 Smithson Ave., at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.

The family would like to thank the staff of Ball Pavilion for their loving kindness, care and concern. They would further like to thank all of their friends and family for their support through this long process.
