Homer William "Bill" Simons
Homer William "Bill" Simons, 90, passed away July 17, 2010 at Pleasant Ridge Manor West. He was born June 15, 1920 in Pierpont, Ohio a son of the late Frank R. and Nellie Sexton Simons.
Bill was a 1939 graduate of Hickory High School in Sharon, PA and retired from Brook Park Plastics in Lake City in 1983. He had previously worked at General Electric. He attended Summit United Methodist Church for the past several years.
Bill enjoyed playing cards, attending the various county fairs to watch both the horse-pulling and tractor-pulling events, working in his yard, and was a faithful fan of the Cleveland Indians and Oakland Raiders. He traveled across the United States and Canada and spent several of the past winters in Florida. His favorite pastime however was spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Geraldine Litzel Simons; a son, William E. Simons and his wife Kathryn, of Erie; a daughter, Paulie Melquist and her husband Dennis of Erie; 6 grandchildren, Michael Melquist, Matthew Melquist and his wife Bethany of Erie, Dennis Melquist and his wife Miranda of Waterford, Stacey Simons, Kelly Royer, and Kristi Simons; three great grandchildren, Alex Melquist, Kailey Royer, and Gabrielle Simons; one step-granddaughter, Miranda McAllister, all of Erie; and one sister, Ruth Holsapfel of Sharpsville, PA.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two sisters, Marjorie Hibner and Mary Clark; and one grandson, Jeremy Simons.
Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home Inc., 5000 Wattsburg Road (corner of East Gore Rd. and Pine Ave.) on Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and are invited to services there on Tuesday morning at 11:00 a.m. officiated by Rev. Jack Larsen. Interment will follow in Laurel Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children, 1645 W. 8th St., Erie, 16505.
