Russell A. "Tuffy" Chapman

Russell A. "Tuffy" Chapman, 81, of Greene Township, died Monday evening July 19, 2010 at his residence following a lengthy illness. A resident of the Erie area all of his life he was born in McKean, PA on March 4, 1929 a son of the late Ray and Ruth Barton Chapman.

Russell had worked at Erie Strayer Co. for 15 years before retiring in 1991. Previously he worked at Eriez Speedway, Modern Industries, and the G.E.. He was a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, the Prince of Peace Seniors Group, and the Pioneer Steam and Gas Engine Society. He was an avid bowler, hunter, and fisher.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Warren Chapman in infancy and John "Chappy" Chapman; and two sisters, Alice Polohonki and Mary Ann Baker.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Eileen Yaple Chapman; two sons, Kenneth Chapman and his wife Christine of Union City and Dennis Chapman and his wife Patricia of Erie; one daughter, Karen Allgeier and her husband Richard, Jr. of Greene Township; three brothers, Dale Chapman and his wife Barbara, Ray Chapman and his wife Madeline, and Harry Chapman and his wife Donna, all of Waterford; six sisters, Julia Carniewski of Waterford, Florence Kennerknecht and her husband Vincent of Erie, Marjorie Lenart of Panama, NY, Myrtle Skiba of Mayville, NY, Lois Smith and her husband Harvey of Waterford, and Kathleen Fox and her husband Donald of Waterford; seven grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. Many nieces and nephews also survive.

Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home Inc., 5000 Wattsburg Road (corner of East Gore Rd. and Pine Ave.) on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. and are invited to services there on Friday morning at 10:00 a.m. officiated by Rev. Bill Cox, Pastor of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, and Rev. J. Kenneth Laber. Burial will be in Waterford Cemetery.
