Harold J. Weiner

Harold J. Weiner, 87, of Erie, passed away Wednesday morning March 3, 2010 at the VA Medical Center following a brief illness. A resident of Erie all of his life he was born on July 1, 1922 a son of the late Walter and Anastatia Pluta Weiner.

Harry was a 1940 graduate of Erie Tech and went on to serve in the Army Air Force in the Tinian Islands, where the Enola Gay had taken off before dropping the first Atomic Bomb, during World War II. He worked as a sorter with the United States Postal Service for over 20 years. He was a member of the American Legion Post 945 and the VFW. He enjoyed photography, traveling, airplane museums, and air shows.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by four sisters, Amelia Borkowski, Henrietta Daub, Leona Sutton, and Helen Goetz; and two brothers, Dan and Carl Weiner.

Survivors include one daughter, Gretchen Anderson and her husband Brian Adams of Cleveland, OH; one sister, Virginia McClellan of Erie; one granddaughter, Grace Adams; two nieces, Nancy Konieczki and her husband Ray of Erie and Audrey Suroviec and her husband Alex of Waterford; and one nephew, Roger Anderson and his wife Christiane of Rome, NY. Many other nieces and nephews also survive.

Friends are invited to a memorial service at the VA Medical Center Chapel, 135 East 38th St., Erie, on Friday morning at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family in Calvary Cemetery.
