 Richard P. "Shorty" Santry
Richard P. "Shorty" Santry, 74, of Erie, died Saturday evening February 27, 2010 at his residence following a lengthy illness. A resident of Erie all of his life he was born on September 6, 1935 a son of the late Harry and Annabelle Stadler Shade Santry.
Shorty served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict and went on to work for Erie Dispatch. Most recently he had worked at Inland Container for over 39 years before retiring in 1996. He was a member of St. Hedwig Catholic Church and a former longtime member of Mt. Calvary Catholic Church. Previously he had been on the Board of Directors at the Forrester's Club and he was a current trustee at the American Legion Post 11. He was a member of the Brownbackers and was a diehard Cleveland Indians and Browns fan.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one sister, Kathryn Ann Shade.
Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Dorothy Glaski Santry; one daughter, Linda Jordan and her husband James of Erie; two sons, Patrick Santry and his wife Karyn of Girard and Richard J. Santry of Erie; seven grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home Inc., 5000 Wattsburg Road (corner of East Gore Rd. and Pine Ave.) on Tuesday from 6 to 9 p.m. and are invited to services there on Wednesday morning at 10:00 a.m.. Burial with military honors will be in Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Disabled American Veterans, 135 E. 38th St., Erie, 16504.
