 Edward L. Kearney, Jr.
Edward L. Kearney, Jr, 92, of Greene Township, died Sunday morning March 14, 2010 following a brief illness. A resident of Erie all of his life he was born May 4, 1917 a son of the late Edward, Sr. and Clara Rastatter Kearney.
Edward was a 1936 graduate of East High School and went on to serve in the United States Army during World War II in the Railroad Battalion. He worked for the Pennsylvania and Penn Central Railroads and most recently worked at Conrail as a Locomotive Engineer for over 30 years before retiring in 1978. . He was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Byzantine Catholic Church.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one daughter, Mary Magdelene Kearney; one sister, Romeyn Gorczyski; and two brothers, Jerome and Paul Kearney.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Evelyn Bauer Kearney; five daughters, Margaret Krumpe and her husband David of Erie, Pauline Kowalski and her husband Donald of Erie, Jane Cap and her husband John of Woodcock, PA, Bridget Hinkler and her husband Terry of Erie, and Kathleen Armagost and her husband Marvin of Cambridge Springs; two sons, David and Thomas Kearney, both of Erie; two brothers, James Kearney of Erie and Peter Kearney and his wife Patricia of Southgate, Mich; 26 grandchildren; and 29 great grandchildren. Many nieces and nephews also survive.
Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home Inc., 5000 Wattsburg Road on Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. including a Panachida service there at 8:45 p.m.. A prayer service will be held there Wednesday morning at 11:15 a..m followed by a Funeral Liturgy at Sts. Peter and Paul Byzantine Catholic Church at 12:00 p.m.. Burial will be in Mary Queen of Peace Cemetery.
