Carolyn Devlin Maas Crews

Carolyn Devlin Maas Crews, 75, of Genesee Avenue, Erie, formerly of the Boston Store Place, died Thursday afternoon, December 31, 2009, at her residence following a lengthy illness. She was born in Erie , September 22, 1934, daughter of the late Charles and Edna Burlingame Devlin. She lived in Erie most of her adult life.

She was employed in the Financial Service Department at St. Vincent Health Center for 18 years before retiring in 2000. She was a 1952 graduate of Mercyhurst Seminary and then attended Business Training College in Pittsburgh. Carolyn was a member of Glenwood United Methodist Church, past Worthy Advisor of the Rainbow Girls at Mercyhurst High School, past president and active board member of the Irish Cultural Society of Erie County and past president of the Afternoon Welcome Wagon.

Survivors include her daughter, Deborah Maas Crews Gibbs and her husband James Gibbs of Erie; her son, Timothy Crews of Pensacola, Fla.; two sisters, Agnes Hills of West Springfield, PA and Charlene Nicolia and her husband Dominick of North East, PA. Carolyn is also survived by three granddaughters, Shannon Gibbs of Erie, Nicole Spencer and her husband Terry of Poulsbo, Wash and Jennifer Gibbs Holmes of Erie; two grandsons, Phillip and Brandon Gibbs both of Erie; and six great grandchildren, Terrence Spencer, III, Christopher Spencer and Taylor Devlin Spencer and Braelyn Spencer all of Poulsbo, Wash., Raven Moore of Erie and Sean Holmes of Erie.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Larry A. Maas in 1955 and her second husband, Richard L. Crews in 1987.

Friends may call Tuesday 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Russell C. Schmidt and Son Funeral Home, 5000 Wattsburg Road (corner of Pine Ave. and East Gore Road, I-90 Exit 29). Calling Wednesday will 1:00 to 1:30 p.m. be at the Glenwood United Methodist Church followed by a service there at 1:30 p.m. officiated by Rev. J. Pat Lenox and Rev. Harry Johns. Burial will be in Laurel Cemetery.
