John Donald Chojnacki

John Donald Chojnacki, age 80, of Erie died Monday, January 11, 2010, in his home. John was the youngest son of the late Ignatius Andrew Chojnacki and Frances Theresa (Brzezynski) Chojnacki of Waterford, PA.

John was a 1947 graduate of East High School. Upon graduation, he served in the United States Air Force where he gained a certificate as an automotive mechanic in Cheyenne, Wyoming, and went on to serve as an instructor there until he was honorably discharged in February 1952. Throughout his life he was a skilled craftsman and carpenter and worked as an independent contractor. He enjoyed music and was a member of the Sportmen's Athletic Clown Band for many years. He will always be remembered as a creative, caring, and wise husband, father, and grandfather.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy Miner and Frances Mieczkowski; and one brother, Edward Chojnacki.

John is survived by: his wife of 56 years Ann Marie (Scully) Chojnacki; two sons John Chojnacki (Nora) and Daniel (Michele) Chojnacki; three daughters Margaret (James) Papucci, Cecelia (John) Moon, and Kelli (James) Martin; eight grandsons, six granddaughters, three great grandsons, and five great granddaughters. One brother-in-law Gale Miner of Waterford and many nieces and nephews also survive.

Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home Inc., 5000 Wattsburg Road (corner of East Gore Rd. and Pine Ave.) on Wednesday from 5 to 9 p.m. and are invited to prayer services there on Thursday morning at 10:15 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Patrick Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m.. Entombment will be in Mary Queen of Peace Cemetery Mausoleum.
