 Ralph E. Bernsley
Ralph E. Bernsley, 67, a resident of Greene Township, died Tuesday afternoon, November 3, 2009, at Hamot Medical Center following a lengthy illness. He was born in North East, PA, July 2, 1942, son of the late Ray and Ethel Yost Bernsley. He lived in the Erie area all of his life.
Ralph was employed as a Coil Winder in the DC Motors Division of General Electric Co. in Lawrence Park for 32 years before retiring in 1997. He attended Wattsburg High School and served in the U.S. Army during the Viet Nam Conflict. He was a member of the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church and enjoyed woodworking and farming.
Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Mary Ann Kishel Bernsley, one daughter, Sheri Hoffman and her husband Bryan of Erie and two sisters, Deanna Samokar of Erie and Nellie Horn and her husband Ray of Harborcreek. He is also survived by two grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Richard, Robert and Raymond Bernsley and one sister, Joan Bernsley.
Friends may call Thursday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Russell C. Schmidt and Son Funeral Home, 5000 Wattsburg Road (corner of Pine Ave. and East Gore Road, I-90 Exit 29). A service will be held there Thursday evening at 8:00 p.m., officiated by Rev. William G. Cox, Jr.
Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. Memorials may be made to the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 9261 Lake Pleasant Road, Erie, PA 16509.
