Wilma Bortnyik Braughler
Wilma Bortnyik Braughler, 99, of Millcreek and formerly of East 36th Street, died Tuesday morning August 18, 2009 at Millcreek Manor following a brief illness. A resident of Erie since 1952 she was born in Rossiter, PA on April 19, 1910 a daughter of the late Gabor Sr. and Mary Szilagyi Bortnyik.
Wilma was a graduate of Rossiter High School and had been a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. She enjoyed sewing and crocheting and loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Ernst C. Braughler; one brother, Gabor Bortnyik, Jr.; and two sisters, Martha O'Keefe and Catherine Bortnyik, in infancy.
Survivors include two sons, Guy Braughler and his wife Arlene of Rogers, Arkansas and Roy Braughler and his wife Elaine of Erie; one brother, William Bortnyik of New Castle, PA; one sister, Matilda Meehan of New York City; five grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren. Many nieces and nephews also survive.
Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home Inc., 5000 Wattsburg Road (corner of East Gore and Pine Ave.) on Thursday from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. and are invited to services there on Friday morning at 10:00 a.m. officiated by Rev. James Eaton, Pastor of Trinity United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the John Kanzius Cancer Research Foundation c/o Palace Business Center, 915 State Street, Erie, 16501.
