Jane M. Fenner Phelps Covell

Jane M. Fenner Phelps Covell, 81, a Corry resident and formerly of Wattsburg, died on Sunday morning May 10, 2009 at the Hamot Medical Center following a brief illness. She was born in Geneva, Ohio on December 11, 1927 a daughter of the late Oscar and Clara Northrup Fenner.

Jane was a secretary and nurses aid at the Wattsburg Middle School for over 20 years and retired in 1987. She had lived in the Wattsburg area from 1949 until she moved to Corry in 1994. She attended the Corry First United Methodist Church, was a member of the Turtles Association, enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, playing cards, knitting, dining out, and bowling in the Senior's afternoon league at Clymer, N.Y.

Survivors include a daughter, Joyce Hammond and her husband Harold of Big Bear City, Calif; two sons, Shawn R. Phelps of Erie and Gary A. Phelps and his wife Cheryl of Wattsburg; a brother, Charles Fenner and his wife Millie of McKean; three sisters, Betty Page of Erie, Mary Lou Pildner and her husband Edward of Cranesville, Pa; and Lynetta Pildner and her husband Jack of Ashtabula, Ohio; eight grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years Allen A. Phelps on April 8, 1992 and her second husband of five years, Lavern Covell on December 17, 2000; four brothers, Clifford, George, Morris, and Richard Fenner.

Friends are invited to attend a funeral service at the Corry First United Methodist Church, 650 Worth St., Corry, on Wednesday morning at 11:00 a.m. officiated by the pastor, Rev. John Zimmerman. Arrangements by the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home, 5000 Wattsburg Road, Erie. Private burial will be in the Wattsburg Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association , 823 Filmore Ave., Erie, 16505 or the charity of your own choice.
