John S. Balogh

John S. Balogh, 83, of Erie, died Sunday evening May 17, 2009 at Abington Crest Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. A resident of Erie all of his life, he was born in Erie on December 15, 1925 a son of the late Stephen and Mary Fabik Balogh.

John had worked at the G.E. for 15 years in the Salvage Department and Stock Room before retiring in 1960. He was a member of St. Luke's Catholic Church and contributed to many charitable organizations. He loved woodworking and playing the harmonica.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Mary Andersen, Julia Brown, and Anna Shaffstall; and three brothers, Stephen, Joseph, and George Balogh.

Survivors include two sisters, Helen Parker of Valdosta, GA and Elizabeth Nieznany and her husband Ben of Erie. Many nieces and nephews also survive.

Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home Inc., 5000 Wattsburg Road (corner of East Gore and Pine Ave.) on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and are invited to services there on Thursday morning at 10:00 a.m. officiated by Msgr. Tom Snyderwine, Pastor of St. Luke Catholic Church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
