Everett W. Colgan
Everett W. Colgan, 89, formerly of Lake Pleasant Road, died Thursday April 2, 2009 at Sarah A. Reed Retirement Center following a brief illness. A resident of Erie since 1942 he was born in Indiana Co. on February 14, 1920 a son of the late Ord and Gwynnie Tyger Colgan.
Everett had served with the United States Navy during World War II and went on to become a Machinist and Quality Control Inspector with the GE for 35 years before retiring in 1981. He was a member of First Christian Church, the Tyrian Commonwealth Lodge No. 362, and the Scottish Rite Valley of Erie, AASR.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Wayne Colgan; two sisters, LaRue Colgan and Thelma Boyd; and two brothers, Forrest and Alvin Colgan.
Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Martha Colgan; one daughter, Sherrie Cermak and her husband Joseph of Erie; three grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild. Many nieces and nephews also survive.
Calling hours were not observed and a private service for the family was held. Burial was in Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery.
Funeral arrangements were made by the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home Inc., 5000 Wattsburg Road, Erie, 16504.
