Rose M. Buto

Rose Muscarella Buto, 97, formerly of Wayne St. and the Mercy Terrace Apartments, died on Tuesday morning, December 23, 2008 at her residence at St. Mary's at Asbury Ridge. She was born in North East, Pa. on July 1, 1911, a daughter of the late Thomas and Frances Scibetta Muscarella.

Rose was a graduate of North East High School and the St. Vincent School of Nursing. She was a Registered Nurse at the St. Vincent Health Center and was last assigned in the Urology Department before she retired. Rose was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Holy Rosary Alter Society, Holy Rosary Happy People Senior Citizens Group, and had been active in Holy Rosary school functions. She had been a volunteer at St. Mary's Home East campus, enjoyed knitting, crocheting, cross-stitching, card games, and ceramics. She mostly enjoyed cooking for the family on special occasions and holidays, especially a meatless dinner for St. Joseph's Day and ravioli for Christmas.

Survivors include two sons, Dennis Buto and his wife, Pat, of Erie, and Tom Buto and his wife, Connie, of Greenville, S.C.; a sister, Loretta Maurana, and her husband, Ray, of North East; ten grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Nick Buto, whom she married on November 28, 1933; two brothers, Sam and Cosmo "Coupie" Muscarella; three sisters, Margaret LaRocca, Josie Viscuso, and Cosmina "Minnie" DiLoreto.

Friends may call on Saturday, December 27th at the Chapel of St. Mary's at Asbury Ridge, 4855 W. Ridge Rd., from 1 p.m. until the celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial at 2 p.m. by Fr. William Fischer, chaplain at St. Mary's at Asbury Ridge and Fr. James Gutting, pastor of Holy Rosary Church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holy Rosary Church, 2701 East Ave., Erie, 16504 or the charity of your own choice. Arrangements by the Russell C.
