Virginia Griffin Bowen
Virginia "Ginny" Griffin Bowen, 85, formerly of Route 8, Venango Township, died on Sunday morning June 29, 2008 at the Ball Pavilion at Brevillier Village following an extended illness. A resident of the Erie area most of her life, she was born in Waterford on May 20, 1923 a daughter of the late John and Mary Mannion Griffin. Ginny was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church and enjoyed country and Irish music, arts and crafts, crocheting, and flower gardening.
Survivors include a sister, Rosella Shannon of Girard; four grandchildren, Linda Bowen of North East, Pa., Cathleen Zukowski of Erie, Thomas Bowen and his wife Crystal of Wattsburg, and Patricia Bowen of North East, Pa.; her family caregivers, Karen Kingman and her husband Charles of Erie, Mary Lanphere and her husband James of Fredonia, N.Y., and Patricia Gibbons and her husband Rudy of Erie; several grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years Francis C. Bowen on October 14, 1997; a son, John Bowen; a grandson in infancy Shawn Bowen, a brother, Thomas Griffin; three sisters, Madeline Kingman, Anna Smith, and Mary Griffin.
Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home, 5000 Wattsburg Road, Erie, corner of East Gore Rd. and Pine Ave., Tuesday 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. and are invited to prayer services there on Wednesday morning at 9:15 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Boniface Church at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be in the Mt. of Olives Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Boniface Church, 9367 Wattsburg Road, Erie, 16509, the Ball Pavilion at Brevillier Village, 5416 E. Lake Road, Erie, 16511, or the Diabetes Association of Erie County, 1128 State St., Erie, 16501.
