Anthony M. Bobrowicz

Anthony M. Bobrowicz, 85, formerly of Wattsburg Road, Greene Township, died on Thursday evening May 1, 2008 at his residence at the Soldiers' & Sailors' Home in Erie. A resident of the Erie area all of his life, he was born in Erie on May 10, 1922 a son of the late Anthony and Agnes Terlecki Bobrowicz.

Anthony had worked as a machinist at the Erie Engine Co. for 30 years and retired in 1981. He had been the President of the local steelworkers union, AFL-CIO Local # 3084 for 15 years and enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was a proud Army veteran of WW II serving in the 271st Field Artillery Battalion of the First Cavalry Division. Anthony was awarded 4 bronze stars and saw duty in the South Pacific at New Guinea, Luzon, Philippines, and Bismarck Archipelago in the Admirality Islands. He was a member of the first troops to enter Tokyo.

Survivors include a son, Thomas Bobrowicz and his partner Ruth Bennett of Erie; a daughter, Bridget Johnston and her husband David of Latrobe, PA; a brother, James Bobrowicz and his wife of Rita of Erie; 4 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years Regina Modzelewski Bobrowicz on January 23, 1996 and a sister Stella Dietrich.

Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home, 5000 Wattsburg Road, Erie, corner of East Gore Rd. and Pine Ave., Saturday from 12 o'clock noon until services there at 2:00 PM. Burial with military honors will be in Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Soldiers' & Sailors' Home, 560 E. 3rd St., Erie, 16507.
