Mary F. Maginn Cox

Mary F. Maginn Cox, 81, an Erie resident, died on Tuesday morning April 22, 2008 following a brief illness. She was born in Ft. Worth, TX on March 26, 1927, daughter of the late Fred and Ida Estes Maginn and was raised by her late aunt and uncle, Adele and Ted Torrey.

Mary was a member of St. Peter Cathedral, the Kahkwa and Erie Maennerchor Clubs, and for many years did volunteer work at the Dr. Gertrude A. Barber Center. She was an avid participant in local bridge and book clubs.

Mary, who was always known for her upbeat and cheery disposition, had extraordinary love and devotion to her family, which includes her husband of 60 years, James L. Cox; five children: Barbara Murnane (James) of Pittsburgh PA, James L. Cox, Jr. (Michele) of Sewickley, PA, Patrick Cox (Maureen) of Cleveland, OH, Kathleen Dicken (John) of Western Springs, IL, and Maureen O'Leary (Tom) of New Canaan, CT. ten grandchildren: Brendan, Anna, McKayla, Christopher, Jack, Patrick, May Kate, Bridget, Colleen, and Kevin; a sister, Betty Below (Russ) of Bowling Green, KY; a brother, Dr. Leonard Maginn (Virginia) of Nashville, TN; several nieces, and one nephew also survive.

Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home, 5000 Wattsburg Road, Erie, corner of East Gore Rd. and Pine Ave., Friday 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 PM and are invited to prayer services there on Saturday morning at 9:15 AM followed by a Mass at St. Peter's Cathedral at 10:00 AM. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the FRAXA Research Foundation, 45 Pleasant St., Newburyport, Mass. 01950. FRAXA is dedicated to finding a treatment and a cure for Fragile X, a disorder that Mary's grandson, Christopher, was diagnosed with several years ago.
