Alois J. "Al" Bielak

Alois J. "Al" Bielak, 89, formerly of Leesburg, FL, died Wednesday morning, January 23, 2008 at his residence at St. Mary's Home East.

He was born in Erie on September 27, 1918 a son of the late Philip and Rosalia Wallenberg Bielak. After moving to Florida in 1978, he had returned to the Erie area in 2001.

Al had worked as a supervisor at the GE for 38 years before retiring in 1978. He was a member of the Elks Club, Moose Club, GE Quarter Century Club, GEER, GE Elfun Society, Leesburg Boat Club, and a Life Member of the East Erie Turners.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Lucile H. Gillespie Bielak, whom he married on July 12, 1941; one daughter, Merrianne Gaber and her husband Gary of Erie; one son, Michael Bielak and his wife Fran of North Royalton, OH; two sisters, Dorothy Bielak of Erie and Irene McPherson of Petaluma, CA; five grandchildren, Katie MacKenzie and her husband David of Phoenixville, Pa, Kelly Gaber of Erie, Kimberly Gaber of West Chester, Pa, Karen Bielak of Korea, and Christopher Bielak of North Royalton, OH. Many nieces and nephews also survive. Al was preceded in death by two brothers, Leonard and Nicholas Bielak and a sister Henrietta Bielak.

Friends are invited to gather at the Chapel at St. Mary's Home East on Friday morning from 10:00 AM until the Mass of Christian Burial is celebrated at 11:00 AM. Burial will be private in Trinity Cemetery and take place at the convenience of the family. Memorials may be made to St. Mary's Home East, 607 East 26th Street, Erie, 16504. The Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home, 5000 Wattsburg Road, Erie, is in charge of arrangements.
