John Csir

John Csir, 84, a resident of Wattsburg Road in Greene Township, died on Wednesday evening November 28, 2007 at the Erie VA Medical Center following a courageous fight with cancer.

A resident of the Erie area since returning from W.W. II, he was born in Ford City, PA on January 26, 1923 a son of the late John and Elizabeth Balog Csir.

John was a Pennsylvania State Police Officer for 26 years working from the Franklin and Latrobe Barracks and retiring as a detective with the rank of Corporal in 1973. Following retirement, he and his wife owned and operated Florence's Ceremic's on Wattsburg Road for many years.

He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church and a life member of the Fraternal Order of Police. John was a Marine Corp veteran of WW II serving in the South Pacific, was an Iwo Jimo survivior, and actually witnessed the famous raising of the US flag after victory on the island.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years Florence Dembrowski Csir; 2 daughters, Elizabeth (and James) and Marianne Grucza and her husband Brian of Erie; 2 sons, Dr. Floyd Csir and his wife Janet and John Csir, all of Erie; 2 brothers, Mike Csir and his wife Vesta of Kittaning, PA and Joseph Csir of Crestline, OH; a sister, Regina Boylstein and her husband Dan of Ford Cliff, PA; 11 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home, 5000 Wattsburg Road, Erie, corner of East Gore Rd. and Pine Ave., Friday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM and are invited to prayer services there on Saturday afternoon at 1:15 PM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Boniface Church at 2:00 PM.

Burial will be in Mt. of Olives Cemetery with honors provided by the Pennsylvania State Police. Memorials may be made to the family in care of the funeral home.
