Dr. Joseph Richard Buzanowski

Superintendent of Iroquois School District

Dr. Joseph Richard Buzanowski, 62, of Millcreek Township died suddenly at Hamot Medical Center, Erie on Thursday, Aug. 2, 2007. Dr. B was born in Erie on Aug. 8, 1944 the son of the late Joseph and Cecelia Wisniewski Buzanowski.

Dr. B was a member of Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, Erie; the AASA; the Siebenbuerger Club and the Erie Maennerchor Club.

Dr. B was a 1962 graduate of Catheral Prep and a 1966 graduate of Gannon College. He continued his education at Edinboro University and Syracuse University where he received a Masters Degree at each. Dr. B then received his Ed.D. from Nova South East University in Florida.

Dr. B. started his educational career in 1966 as a Biology teacher in the Iroquois School District. He then served as assistant principal, and principal before becoming Superintendent of School for the Iroquois School District.

He deeply loved his family and school district, and enjoyed woodworking and gardening.

He was preceded by three sisters, Helen Kennerknecht, Irene Sherman and Florence Sokolowski. Dr. B is survived by his wife, Shirley Strohmeyer Buzanowski whom he married on Aug. 20, 1966; three children, Timothy (Genia) Buzanowski, Hollister, CA; Robert (Rhonda) Buzanowski and Paula Buzanowski, both of Erie; a sister, Audrey (Stan) Dubowski, Erie. Dr. B is further survived by three grandchildren, Tyler, Jacob and Danielle and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home, 5000 Wattsburg Road, Erie, corner of East Gore Rd. & Pine Ave. on Sunday and Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and may attend a funeral Mass at Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, 22nd & Reed Street, Erie, on Tuesday at 10 a.m.

Burial will be in Mary, Queen of Peace Cemetery.
