Vance B. Brooks

Vance B. Brooks, 99, a resident of the Sarah A. Reed Retirement Center, died on Thursday afternoon July 19, 2007 at the Hamot Medical Center.

A resident of Erie most of his life, he was born in Conneaut, Ohio on August 3, 1907 a son of the late Harry Vance Brooks and Rena Carris Brooks. A 1926 graduate of Academy High School, he then went on to business college which he completed in 1929.

Vance was the business office manager and in charge of accounting at the Erie Meter Systems eventually becoming the Assistant Treasurer and then the Treasurer of the company. When the company was sold, he then worked as the Executive Director of the local American Heart Association and next as the Executive Director of the local United Cerebral Palsy until his retirement in 1972. He was a member of the Grace Baptist Church and enjoyed golfing, fishing, and hunting.

Surving is a son Thomas R. Brooks of Erie. Vance was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Margaret Dankworth Brooks on July 11, 1997.

Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home, 5000 Wattsburg Road, Erie, corner of East Gore Road and Pine Ave., Sunday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM and are invited to services there on Monday afternoon at 2:00 PM officiated by the Rev. Al Detter, Pastor of the Grace Baptist Church.

Burial will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery.
