Harry E. Banaszek
Harry E. Banaszek, 78, a lifelong Erie resident, died on Wednesday morning June 13, 2007 at the Twinbrook Medical Center following a lengthy illness.
He was born in Erie on April 9, 1929 a son of the late Anthony and Frances Ziomek Banaszek. He was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church and had owned and operated his own auto repair shop the Holland Garage in Erie for over 40 years and retired in 1997.
Harry was an avid and well known bowler and enjoyed fishing, woodworking, and playing his accordian. He was also a member of the CYS, Polish Falcons, and the Huzars Clubs.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years Jean Caskey Banaszek; a son, James Banaszek and his wife Karin of Erie; 2 daughters, Cynthia Guzowski and her husband Thomas Guzowski, Sr. and Cheryl Nodzak and her husband Donald, all of Erie; 3 grandchildren, Brian and Thomas Guzowski, Jr., both of Erie, and Staci Banaszek of Fredricksburg, VA; 4 sisters, Florence Koblinski, Eleanor Maleski and her husband John, Leona Schwab, and Margie Holman, all of Erie; 3 great grandchildren also survive. He was preceded in death by a sister Stella Bargielski and a brother Richard Banaszek.
Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home, 5000 Wattsburg Road, Erie, corner of East Gore Rd. and Pine Ave., Friday 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 PM and are invited to prayer services there on Saturday afternoon at 1:15 PM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church at 2:00 PM.
Burial will be in Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery.
