Charles E. Cantor
Charles E. Cantor, 93, a resident of Englewood, N.J. and formerly of Erie, died on Tuesday morning March 20, 2007 at the Englewood Hospital. He moved to New Jersey from Erie in 1950. He was born in Erie on October 2, 1913 a son of the late Charles P. Cantor and Ruth Hunt Cantor. Charles was a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh with a BS degree in Engineering. He had been a Field Engineer for over 40 years in the New York City sales office of Talon Industries from Meadville, Pa. and retired in 1977. Charles was a past treasurer and current member of The Hackensack Art Club and was the co-chair of their Tuesday workshop. He was a former member of the Ft. Lee Art Club, a Super Numerary with both the New York City Opera and Metropolitan Opera for several seasons, and a member of the Rodda Center Senior Citizens in Teaneck, NJ. Charles had won awards for his paintings and ceramic work showcased at Ringwood Manor and other ceramic and art shows. He loved to travel in the U.S., England, and Europe. He loved and was loved by his many friends and had an artist's appreciation and detailed eye for the world. He touched many lives and will be dearly missed.
Survivors include a nephew John Sutton and his wife Carol of Harborcreek; two nieces, Linda Herrmann and her husband Les of Grand Island, N.Y. and Beth Kendall of Johnstown, Pa. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Nancy Lou Kendall and Mary Jane Sutton; a special friend Marvin Riddle in 1991; a nephew, Charles Anthony Kendall; two nieces, Mary Lou Kendall and Patty Sutton.
Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home, 5000 Wattsburg Road, Erie, corner of East Gore Road and Pine Ave., Saturday from 10 a.m. until service time there at 11 a.m. officiated by the Rev. Hal Shafer. Burial will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery.
