Ellen M. McCallion Babo

Ellen M. McCallion Babo "Mama" All Love Begins and Ends There. Our loving mother Ellen passed away Monday afternoon March 12, 2007 at St. Mary's at Asbury Ridge. Mother went to meet her Lord and Savior wrapped in the love of her cherished children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Ellen, the daughter of the late Philip J. McCallion and Mary Santry McCallion, was born in Erie on February 1, 1918. She began her lifetime of caring and loving others at a tender young age. When other children were on the school yard playing, mother was at home caring for her ill mother and younger siblings. Her life of loving and caring for others carried through out her lifetime. She cared for her beloved husband and soulmate Bob. She lovingly tended to her two daughters, their spouses, grandchildren, and great grandchildren right to the end. She was merciful and kind to others whether family or friend. If one needed help, she was there to listen, advise, cook, or physically care for their needs. Mama had a great love for poetry and some poetry from her youth is proudly recited today by her great grandchildren.

Mother loved music and some of her favorite songs will be remembered and cherished forever. Mother was an avid reader and writer and has written two journals for her daughters. Mother and Dad were married May 30, 1942 and celebrated 50 years of marriage and love for each other on May 30, 1992.

Ellen was preceded in death by her beloved husband Robert F. Babo on August 13, 1995, her brothers, James, Joseph, and Charles McCallion, a sister Margaret Schroeck, and a great granddaughter Lauren Rachel Kahle. Ellen is survived by her daughters Judith Babo Dufala and her husband George, Sr. and Marjorie E. Fischer and her husband Richard; six grandchildren, Jill Kahle, George D. Dufala, Jr., Gregory D. Dufala and wife Katie, and Janna M. Fischer, all of Erie, Jamie M. Weiland and husband David of Parkville, Maryland, and Mark R. Fischer and wife Susan of Novelty, Ohio, 13 great grandchildren Linsey, Lisa, and Leanna Kahle, David, Samuel, and Natalie Weiland, Brandon and Samantha Fischer, Madeline, Caralyn, Meaghan, and George Dufala, III, and Josephine Dufala; and a sister Mary Jane McCallion.
