Elmarietta "Rita" Washburn Amidon

Elmarietta "Rita" Washburn Amidon, 93, formerly of E. 37th St., Erie, and the Barnett Building in Albion, died at her residence at the Manchester Presbyterian Lodge on Thursday morning, March 29, 2007 after several weeks of failing health. A resident of the Erie area all of her life, she was born in Erie on February 22, 1914, a daughter of the late John W. Washburn and Freida Hain Washburn.

Rita had worked for many years as the Office Manager and Secretary at the Meadow Brook Dairy. She was retired and had also worked at the Meadow Brook Credit Union for several years. She was a member of the Cranesville United Methodist Church and a former long time member of the Emmanuel Presbyterian Church in Erie. Rita was also a member of the Squaws and Paws Square Dance Club.

Survivors include a son, the Rev. C. Forrest Amidon, and his wife, Katie, of Bellefontaine, Ohio; a daughter, Jacqueline Lasher, and her husband, Paul, of Cranesville, Pa.; seven grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren also survive. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, C. Foster Amidon, on June 30, 1991; and her step-mother, Elsa Doehling Washburn.

Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home, 5000 Wattsburg Rd., Erie, corner of E. Gore Rd. and Pine Ave., Sunday 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., and are invited to services there on Monday morning at 10 a.m., officiated by the Rev. Robert Klingler, pastor of the Cranesville United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery.
