Clarence J. "Brownie" Brown

Clarence Joseph "Brownie" Brown, 80, of Edinboro, died Thursday, November 27, 2008 at the Golden Living Center in Cambridge Springs. He was born in Wilkinsburg, PA on May 30, 1928, the son of the late Joseph and Edna Trapp Brown.

Clarence, also known to many as "Brownie", was an Edinboro University Employee for many years. He was a security guard for several years, a store room supervisor for 30 years, a handicapped van driver for the Rolling Scots basketball team for 3 years and worked in Van Houten Dining Hall. Brownie also owned and operated the Edinboro Variety Store on Erie Street for 5 years. He was a member of the Venango and Edinboro/McKean V.F.W.'s, the Edinboro American Legion Post #439, the Oasis Lodge #416, F. & A.M. in Edinboro, the Zem Zem Shriners Motor Corp which he previously served as president, the West Co. Shrine Club, the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Erie, and a past member of the Lions Club.

Clarence served in the Army during Korea as an Army Medic receiving a Silver Star and many other awards and metals. He was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers Fan. Brownie also assisted Harry and Ivaleen Glunt at the Glunt Funeral Home.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Beatrice and Ethel Brown. Survivors include his loving wife of 53 years, Lillie Weckerle Brown; a daughter, Barbara Kutruff and her husband Gene, of Fairview; two sons, Ralph Brown and his wife Jennifer, of Wesleyville, and Raymond Brown and his wife Debbie, of Edinboro; also 10 grandchildren, Mark and Chrystal Brown, Jayelynn and Michael Carter, Shelby, Emily, Abigail and Hunter Brown, Ron and Devon Kutruff; and one great-grandchild, Brooke Brown.

Friends may call at the Glunt Funeral Home, 210 Erie Street, Edinboro, on Monday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. A prayer service will be held there on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. followed by a funeral service at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 25812 Mt. Pleasant Road, Cambridge Springs, at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Elsa L. Clark officiating. A Masonic service will be held on Monday at 8:30 p.m.

Burial will be in Erie County Memorial Gardens at a later date. Memorials may be made to Edinboro Fire Department, 125 Meadville Street, Edinboro, PA 16412 or the Wesleyville Hose Co., 3421 Buffalo Road, Erie, PA 16510.
