Paul Adams,PhD
Paul K. Adams, PhD., 75, of Fairview and formerly of Edinboro died Tuesday, March 13, 2007 at St. Vincent Health Center. He was born in Jacksonville, Ohio on July 28, 1931, son of the late Charles Shirkey and Alice Kinder Shirkey Siegmund and his adopted parents Aunt Mildred and Kenneth Adams.
Dr. Adams was a professor of History and Education, Director of Social Science and Director of Student Teaching at Gannon University. He was a versatile teacher and an excellent scholar. His publications have appeared in many scholarly journals. He received a Ph. D. in American Social and Intellectual History and the History of Education from Kent State University.
He was a member of the American Association of University Professors, the Pennsylvania State Education Association, the Pennsylvania Council for the Social Sciences, the Canadian Teaching and Learning Society, and National Education Association where he served as a editorial adviser. He also served as a grant reader for the U.S. Department of Education in Washington, D.C. He served as a Marine in the Korean War Era.
He was a loving husband and father, he also enjoyed traveling with his family, especially the numerous trips to the British Isles and was an avid fisherman.
Paul was also preceded in death by his step brother Wayne Siegmund. Survivors include his devoted wife of 50 years Dolores Adams; two daughters Polly Adams of Fairview; and Sara Adams of Edinboro; a half brother Edwin Shirkey of Florida; and a half sister Barbara Shirkey of Colorado.
Friends may call on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of prayers at 12 p.m. at the Glunt Funeral Home, Inc., 210 Erie Street, Edinboro, an Independent Care Group Affiliate. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of the Lake Church at 12:30 p.m. Burial will be at Edinboro Cemetery.
