Stanley Clayton Bishop
Stanley Clayton Bishop, 79, of Union City, Pa., died unexpectedly Tuesday, July 6 in his home.
He was born Feb. 11, 1931, in Calcium, N.Y., a son of the late Marian and Clayton Bishop.
Mr. Bishop loved his family, particularly his grandchildren and great¬-grandchildren. He enjoyed playing and watching sports of all types, particularly golf, and as a young man had been an avid tennis player and skier. Mr. Bishop was a fan of the Cleveland Indians and New York Giants, enjoyed music and was an accomplished piano player. He enjoyed politics and had a healthy skepticism of politicians that he frequently and passionately shared with family and friends. His e-mails will be missed.
He was a graduate of Clarkson College of Technology in Potsdam, N.Y., with a degree in electrical engineering. He had worked as an engineer and in sales for a number of companies, including Snap-tite in Union City. Mr. Bishop also worked as a realtor for Dial Realty of Union City. Mr. Bishop was also organ donor.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Bishop was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Nikolas Parkhurst.
He is survived by his loving wife, Helen, of Union City, with whom he would have celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary on July 11. He is also survived by a sister, Norma Bishop of Union City; a daughter and her husband, Martha and Tom Irwin of Union City, three sons, Steven Bishop and his wife Jetta of Pittsfield, Scott Bishop and his wife Cindy of Erie, and Paul Bishop and his wife Jeannie of Clermont, Fla.
Mr. Bishop is also survived by eight grandchildren, Jason Irwin, Rebecca Parkhurst, Emily Nelson, Jaclyn Wilkinson, Stefanie Wilkinson, and Nicole, Holly and Jenna Bishop. He is also survived by five great-grandchildren, Tyler and Trent Parkhurst, Paige and Peyton Irwin, and Mya Allen.
A private family service will be held, with arrangements under the direction of the ROBERT M. GLENN FUNERAL HOME, INC. of Union City, with interment to follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Union City, PA.
