Oma Cauvel

Oma Lillian Sturdevant Goughler Cauvel, 93, was promoted to glory on Wednesday moming, August 5, 2009 at Saint Vincent Health Center, Erie, Pa. following a brief illness. She was born December 29, 1915 in Athens Township, near Centerville, Pa.

She grew up in Union City, and spent her adult years in Cherry Tree, Pa. In her senior years she returned to Union City, living as an active member of the Manly Heights Apartments Community.

Oma was preceded in death by her two loving husbands, Lester Goughler and Leal Cauvel, her brothers Edward A. Sturdevant and the Rev. William Sturdevant and his wife Elizabeth, her sister Anna Giles and her husband Richard. Also preceding her in death were a stepdaughter, Joyce Meyers, and two nieces Diana Fish and Patricia Sturdevant, and two nephews, Richard Giles and Charles Giles.

She is survived by her sister-in-law, Mabel Sturdevant of Union City PA, a stepdaughter, Jean Estaub of Renton, WA, a stepson, Keith Cauvel and his wife Mary of Zelienople PA, two nieces Lucille Giles and Susan Sturdevant both of Union City PA, five nephews, Denton Sturdevant and his wife Linda of Jacksonville FL, Adelbert Sturdevant and his wife Sandra of Mill Village, Pa, Edd Sturdevant of Union City, Pa Rexford "Skip" Sturdevant of Union Grove WI and William Sturdevant and his wife Susan of Rochester NY.

She is also survived by three step granddaughters, six step great grandchildren and one step great-great grandchild, and many great nieces and great nephews. Orna also leaves behind many dear friends in the Manly Heights Community.

Oma took great delight in watching her nieces and nephews and their children grow up, beloved by all of them as their Aunt Oma. Her faith was always strong, providing an example to her entire family. She actively worshiped with the faith community at Parade Street United Methodist Church in Union City, Pa.

No Calling Hours will be observed. A memorial service to celebrate Oma's life will be held at the Parade Street United Methodist Church, 7 Parade Street, Union City PA on Sunday August 30, 2009. The family will greet Oma's friends at 3 P.M. with the memorial service beginning at 3:30 P.M. Rev. Tom Kennedy will officiate. All arrangements are being handled by the GLENN FUNERAL HOME, 62 South Main Street, Union City PA.

The family requests memorials in lieu of flowers to Shepherds Ministries, 1805 15th Avenue, Union Grove, WI 53182·1597, or to the Parade Street, United Methodist Church, 7 Parade Street, Union City, PA 16438.
