Donald L. Burgess

Donald L. Burgess, 72, of St. Cloud, Florida, passed away on Sunday, October 19, 2008 at Osceola Regional Medical Center, Kissimmee, Florida. He was born August 18, 1936 in Union City, Pa., the son of Doris (Obert) Burgess Hubbard and the late William L. Burgess.

He was a 1954 graduate of Union City High School, and retired from the United States Army in 1975 serving both stateside and abroad and was a Vietnam Veteran. After retirement, he served as a civilian Army Recruiter for many years. He then owned and operated a limousine and bus service in Florida. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, umpiring, and coaching Little League baseball, dancing, playing the sax, playing cribbage at the Grass Roots Club, driving and being a chauffeur. He loved people and was very outgoing and friendly.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by a daughter Dina Riggs and her husband Daniel of Orlando, Florida; a son Dustin Burgess and his wife Cara of Deltona, Florida, four grandchildren, Reece and Raelyn Riggs, Brooke and Brady Burgess, all of Florida, and two brothers: James L. Burgess and his wife Judy and Dale L. Burgess and his wife Joan all of Union City, Pa., and a sister: Connie L. Molli and her husband Gerold of Townville, Pa., a step-sister: Dorothy Coates of Sylvania, Ohio, several nieces and nephews and a very dear friend Janice Drayer Volk.

Friends may call at the Glenn Funeral Home, 62 South Main Street, Union City, Pa. on Thursday, October 23, 2008 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and attend funeral services there on Friday, October 24, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Jerry Alsdorf officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery with full military honors. Memorials are requested to the American Heart Association, Western PA District, 823 Filmore Avenue, Erie, PA 16505 or to the VNA Hospice of Erie County, 1305 Peach Street, Erie, PA 16501.
