Richard Edward Coatoam
Richard Edward Coatoam, 76, of 23934 Wilkins Road, Union City, died Thursday, December 20, 2007 in Corry Manor, surrounded by his loving family. He was born May 7, 1931 in Erie, Pa., son of the late Thomas R. and Mildred B. (Bird) Coatoam.
e was employed with the State of Pennsylvania Fish Commission retired after 25 years in 1986. He loved to collect and sell guns, and enjoyed the time spent with his family. He was a member of Union City Moose Lodge # 882, and the American Legion, LeBaron Post # 237, of Union City, Pa. He served in the United States Navy during World War II, aboard the USS Portsmouth and the USS Grand Canyon and received an Honorable Discharge.
Preceding him in death were his Parents; Thomas R. and Mildren B. (Bird) Coatoam, a granddaughter; Lauren Chaffin, and a brother and his wife James and Betty Coatoam. Surviving are his wife, Mary Jane (Blore) Coatoam of Union City, Pa. Daughters: Susan Chaffin and her husband Oscar "Allen" of Union City, Pa. Melissa M. Hackett and her husband Peter of Centerville, Pa. Sharon Armstrong and her husband Chris of Santa Monica, California, Linda Carey and her husband Brent of Newberry, California, Sons: Thomas Coatoam and his wife Heather (Rose) of Saginaw, Michigan, Craig Coatoam of Titusville, Pa. Son and Daughter-in-Law, Bryan King and his wife Jessica of Warren Ohio. Sisters: Mary Moody and his husband Richard of Wattsburg, Pa., Patricia Miller and her husband Larry of Union City, Pa., Brothers: Thomas Coatoam of Corry, Pa. and Raymond "Jack" Coatoam and his wife Shirley of Union City, Pa. Eighteen Grandchildren and two Great Grandchildren.
Friends will be received at The Glenn Funeral Home, 62 South Main Street, Union City, Pa., from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Saturday, December 22, 2007. Funeral Services will be announced at a later date by the family. Memorials may be made to the American Kidney Fund, 6110 Executive Boulevard, Suite 1010, Rockville, MD 20852-9813, or the Empty Arms Care of Saint Vincent's 232 West 25th Street, Erie, PA 16544 or to the charity of ones choice.
