Irene Joan Amendola Chojnacki
Irene Joan Amendola Chojnacki, 86, of Erie passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 30, 2009 at Pleasant Ridge Manor East. She was born on June 5, 1923 in Erie daughter of the late Battista and Angelina (Garritano) Amendola.
Irene was a resident of Erie and a parishioner of St. Patrick RC Parish her entire life. In her teen years Irene sang on a live radio show. She enjoyed gardening, bowling and word puzzles. She loved to travel; whether it was an impromptu jaunt to Niagara Falls or a cross-country trip to see the swallows at San Juan Capistrano in California. She was an excellent cook and had been employed as such at the Caesar Batiste Club. Her husband, children and grandchildren were always first and foremost in her life. Her four sisters were her best friends.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her dearly beloved husband Raymond Joseph Chojnacki in 1984, three brothers, Alfred, Albert and William Amendola, two sisters, Lena Alo and Virginia Bonante and a stepson Leonard Chojnacki. Irene will be greatly missed by surviving family members, a daughter Doreen Fallon of Erie, a son Raymond Chojnacki (wife Darlene) of Girard, nine grandchildren, Kevin (wife Taiya) and Brett Fallon of Erie, Michael, Anna, Kara, Lea Chojnacki of Girard, Lynn Marie Steger of Niceville, Fla., Stephen Chojnacki of Tampa, Fla. and David Chojnacki of Orlando, Fla., two great-grandchildren, Christina Marie Steger, Ryan Lupori and awaiting the arrival of the third great-grandchild, two sisters, Ida Amendola and Eleanor Nordin, both of Erie, several nieces and nephews, and a godchild, Bonita Bonante Menditto.

Relatives and friends may call at the Edward J. Garr Funeral Home, 459 East 12th Street, Erie, PA 16503, Wednesday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Services will be at the funeral home Friday at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick Church. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery.
