Anthony F. Dabkowski
Anthony F. Dabkowski, 86, of Erie, passed away on Wednesday, October 8, 2008 at St. Mary's Home-East. He was born July 26, 1922, in Szuczyn, Poland, son of the late Joseph and Eva Modzielska Dabkowski.
He was imprisoned in a Soviet war camp at age 17. When freed he joined the Polish Army then traveled and trained in Persia, Palestine and Iraq. During World War II he saw action in Monte Cassino where he was a medic. He was also a musician in the Army and played at various clubs. Following the war he lived in London. He moved to Erie where he met his late wife Helen Nagorski who passed away in 1993. He was a member of YMCA, Hammermill Retirees Group and the Siebenbuerger Club. He retired from Hammermill Paper after 35 years of service.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and three brothers, Stanley, John and Edward Dabkowski. Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Parks and husband Richard of Erie, Christine Giles and husband Patrick of Collins Center, N.Y.; on son, Edward Dabkowski of Erie; three grandchildren Meghan, Ian and Bridget Giles of Collins Center, N.Y.; one sister, Wieslawa Wroclawska of Poznan, Poland.
Relatives and friends may call at the Edward J. Garr Funeral Home, 459 12th Street, Erie Pa., 16503, Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be at the funeral home on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 at St. Casimir Church. Entombment will be in Calvary Mausoleum Chapel.
