E lmer L. Dahl
Elmer L. Dahl, 87, of Millcreek, passed away at his residence on Tuesday, December 25, 2007. He was born January 1, 1920 in Concord Twp., Pa., son of the late Carl E. and Mabel Fay Dahl.
He worked for Hays Manufacturing, and then retired from AMSCO (American Sterilizer Co.) in 1985. He served in the United States Marines in World War II as a Sergeant in the Pacific Theater. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church for over 54 plus years. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 773, and a Life Member of the International Association of Machinist and Aerospace workers. He enjoyed gardening, attending his children's sporting events, baseball and listening to music and fixing things.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Josephine T. Niedzielski Dahl, in 2001; one sister, Betty Allen; and one son-in-law, Walter Whitaker. Survivors include one daughter, Susan Whitaker, of Lake City, Pa.; and one son, Kevin Dahl, and fiance, Laura Moore, of Erie. He is also survived by two grandsons, Jay Dahl and wife, Amy, of Akron, Ohio, and Ian Dahl and fiance, Lindsey Bedow, of Erie; two granddaughters, Anne and Katie Whitaker, both of Lake City, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends may call at the Edward J. Garr Funeral Home, 459 E. 12th St., Erie, PA 16503; Friday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Services will be at the funeral home on Saturday at 11:30 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Noon at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will be at Laurel Hill Cemetery.
