Helen Modzelewski Burek

Helen Modzelewski Burek, 85, of Harborcreek Township, died Thursday, March 22, 2007 at St. Mary’s Home-East. She was born January 28, 1922, in Erie, Pa., daughter of the late Stanislaus and Stanislawa Bienkowksi Modzelewski. She was a homemaker. She was a member of St. James Catholic Church and St. James Senior Citizens.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Alois Burek in 1975, three sisters, Lucille Lubak, Caroline Rutkowski, Eugenia Przybyszewski and three brothers, John, Stanley and Joseph Modzelewski. Survivors include one son, James A. Burek and wife Barbara, one granddaughter, Stephanie Thomas and husband Matthew, one grandson, Allen Burek and wife Heidi, three great-grandchildren, Brandon Thomas, Raegan Kane and Olivia Burek; one sister-in-law, Mildred Modzelewski all of Erie. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends may call at the Edward J. Garr Funeral Home, 459 East 12th Street, Erie, PA 16503, Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be at the funeral home on Monday at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Brookside Fire Company, 3560 Athens Street, Erie, PA 16510.
