Ruth Garland Brewer

Ruth Garland Brewer, 96, a resident of Pleasant Ridge Manor, passed away there on Saturday, December 10, 2011. Ruth was born on August 19, 1915 in Balch, Arkansas, a daughter of the late Robert K. and Loretta Henson Garland.

She was raised and educated in Arkansas, moving to Platea in 1951 where she lived for many years, later moving to Albion. She was a member of the Girard Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses. She enjoyed making quilts, sewing, and making clothing for people.

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Louie Brewer, to whom she was married for 56 years; three daughters, Nelda Henpetty and Hilda Fay Brewer and Patty S. Thomas; one son, Louis W. Brewer; and three brothers, John Lawson Garland, Luther Garland, and Robert Garland, Jr. Survivors include her son, Lewis J. Brewer "LJ" of West Springfield; two sisters, Victoria Balch of Indianapolis, Ind. and Margaret Sitzser and her husband, Oscar, of Winner, Ark.; 15 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call on Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Daniel R. Edder Funeral Home, 309 Main St. East, Girard. Funeral services will be held there on Tuesday at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Erie County Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to the Federated Church of East Springfield, 11995 E. Main St., E. Springfield, PA 16411.
