Genevieve Mae Heglund Birt

Genevieve Mae Heglund Birt 89, Died Tuesday July 19, 2011 at Pleasant Ridge Manor West Where she resided. She was born May 15, 1922 in Jamestown, N.Y., a daughter of the late Oscar and Esther (Peterson) Heglund.

She was raised and educated in Jamestown, later moved to Frewsburg, N.Y. where she raised her family, and eventually relocated to Erie in 1959. During this time, she was employed at various clothing stores throughout the city.

Starting in1964, she made a number of relocations which included, Long Beach, CA, Las Vegas, NV, Denver, CO, and Tucson, AZ where she worked at a home for the mentally disabled for ten years. A move back to California in 1983, led Genevieve to working for and assisted living senior complex in Fullerton, CA. She retired in 1999 at the age of 78.

Genevieve found the greatest joys in her life were taking care of her family and being a caregiver to her grandchildren.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her sisters, Jane Dengel and Connie Ledbetter, her brother, Vernon "Butch" Heglund and her grandson, Stephen Birt.

She will be lovingly remembered by her three daughters, Belle Chylinski and her husband Frank of Millcreek, Geneie Willis and her husband James of Montclair, CA, and Stephanie Williamson of Huntington Beach, CA; her sister, Diane Prete and her husband Tony of Erie; brother David Heglund of Sebring, FL; grandchildren Thomas Chylinski and his wife Michelle of Erie, Christianne Haughwout and her husband Josiah of Erie, Karen Giannamore and her husband Michael of Erie, Nicolas Chylinski and his wife Trisha of Ft. Myers, FL, Peter Chylinski and his fiance', Nicole of Erie, AnnMarie Lucas and her husband Zac of Erie, Timothy Chylinski and his girlfriend, Courtney of Orlando, FL, Suzanne Ballenger and her husband, Marvin of Victorville, CA, James Willis,Jr. of Rialto,CA, and Charles "Chaz" Williamson of Huntington Beach, CA. Genevieve is also survived by 15 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, and a number of nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service on Saturday, July 23 at 9:30 AM at Pleasant Ridge Manor West Chapel, 8300 West Ridge Rd. Girard, Rev. Thomas McLaren will officiate.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimers Association 1128 State St. Ste, 301 Erie, PA 16501-1920.
