Laura Jean (Coy) Burdick
Laura Jean (Coy) Burdick, age 81, of Platea, passed away on May 10, 2011, surrounded by her family at Fairview Manor after an extended illness. She was born to the late Frank L. and Mary E. (Jones) Coy, on November 8, 1929 in Bradford, Pa. Laura was the owner and operator of Burdick's Farm Market in Platea for over 40 years. She enjoyed gardening, farming, collecting antiques, reading, traveling, and being with her family.
She was a member of the Wesleyan Church of the Nazarene in Albion and a former volunteer for the Red Cross. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, William A. Burdick, whom she married on May 8, 1948; a son, David L. Burdick; and a sister, Janet Ethel Baltz.
Laura will be missed by her family which includes two daughters; Martha Bartosek and her husband, Skip of Girard, Cathy Tau and her husband, Gerry of Lake City; four sons; William F. Burdick and his wife, Robyn of Seattle, Wa., Daniel G. Burdick and his wife, Janie of Springboro, Michael Burdick and his wife, Judith of Cotuit, Ma., and Brian Burdick and his wife, Cheryl of Platea; a sister, Diana Thorpe and her husband, Dave of Solon, Ohio; two brothers; Gerald R. Coy of Medina, Ohio, and Russell L. Coy and his wife, Janice of Bradford, Pa.; twenty-five Grandchildren, twenty-one Great-Grandchildren, and one Great-Great-Grandchild.
Friends may call Thursday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Daniel R. Edder Funeral Home, 309 Main St. East, Girard, Pa. Funeral Services will be Friday at 10 a.m. at the Wesleyan Church of the Nazarene, in Albion. Burial will follow at Fairmount Cemetery, in Farmer's Valley, Pa, at 3 p.m. Friday. Flowers are welcome and memorials can be made to the Rice Avenue Community Public Library, 705 Rice Avenue, Girard, Pa 16417, or the charity of their choice.
