Helen Jane Throop Dearbeck
Helen Jane Throop Dearbeck, 75 of Girard, died Monday, March 21, 2011, at her home following an extended illness. She was born in Waynesboro, Va. on July 1, 1935, a daughter of the late John E. and Bernice Heegel Throop.
Following her graduation from McDowell High School in 1954, she studied at the Erie Infants Home and Hospital and became a child technician. She also worked at Pleasant Ridge Manor for twelve years as a nurse's assistant. Helen attended Bethel Assembly of God in Girard and worked at the Christian Cupboard at the First Presbyterian Church of Girard for many years. She was a foster mother to 28 different children in the Fairview area, including special needs children. Her favorite place was Presque Isle State Park, and she loved to drive around the park.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her son, John Edward King, and her brother, Jack Throop. She will be deeply missed by her three daughters, Jolene E. Nunemaker and her husband Thomas of Rootstown, Ohio, Sandy D. Derry of Minot, N. D., and Linda L. Neal and her husband Todd of Girard; her son, Norman R. King of Girard; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call on Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Daniel R. Edder Funeral Home, 309 Main St. East, Girard. Services will be held there on Thursday at 10 a.m. with Rev. Marty Critchfield officiating.
