William O. "Doc" Daugherty

William O. "Doc" Daugherty, 73 of Girard, died Tuesday February 2, 2010 at his home. He was born May 10, 1936 in Beaver Falls, Pa., a son of Viola Barber Daugherty of Wampum, PA and the late Oliver O. Daugherty.

Bill graduated from Beaver Falls High School in 1953. He then attended and graduated from Clarion University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics in 1957 and later received his Masters Degree from Edinboro University. During the Vietnam Conflict he was inducted into the US Army where he was stationed in Hawaii.

He began his teaching career in Girard in 1957, and continued with his career there until his retirment as a Social Studies teacher in 2002. While teaching he was the senior class advisor for many years and also drove students to many activities and athletic events on the bus lines. He also drove for Grove City Bus Lines for over 30 years, traveling throughout the US and Canada.

He was a member of the Girard Presbyterian Church; a member of the board of Lake Erie Community Park and had many hobbies, including all types of trains, listening to old country music, an avid NASCAR and Richard Petty fan, relaxing in front of his fireplace, hanging out with his best friend Dakota and companionship at the Main Perk in Girard. Bill was an extremely helpful and caring person to many people in the community and will be greatly missed.

In addition to his father he was preceded in death by his wife, Gloria L. Rea Daugherty, whom he married August 23, 1958 in Callensburg, PA; also by a brother, Robert Daugherty.

In addition to his mother he is survived by two sons, Brad O. Daugherty of Girard, Jason W. Daugherty and his wife Holly of Girard; a sister, Dianne Daugherty of Wampum, PA., a grandaughter Katelynn S. Vasilik of Girard and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call on Thursday from 2-4PM and 7-9PM at Daniel R. Edder Funeral Home, 309 Main St. East, Girard. Services will be held there on Friday at 10AM. Rev. Darrell Greenawalt officiating.

Burial will be in Girard Cemetery.
